Graduate Gift Challenge

Date: 2014

The Hampshire College Graduate Gift Challenge (GGC) is a percentage-based fundraising challenge designed to encourage philanthropy in the school’s graduating students.

As a member of the GGC Committee my senior year, I designed a logo for the challenge as well as a variety of marketing materials including posters, table tents, and cookie vouchers.

The GGC needed a logo that was cute, memorable, and resonated with students. Since a (very-valid) stereotype of Hampshire students is that we’re hipsters, and one of our mascots is the frog, the hipster-frog was born.

One of the ways we advertised on campus was through table tents we’d prop up on tables in as many buildings as we could.

For this one, I wanted to reenforce the idea that every single gift counted - that the only thing keeping us from $75,000 was “you”, the Div III student reading it. And then “you” became “u” after I realized it could be like the missing piece of a puzzle.

We needed fun and engaging cookie vouchers to leave in student mailboxes in order to encourage them to drop by our table.

I thought it would be fun to play on the idea that this paper was more of a “cookie placeholder” - even though they were holding a paper one minute, they could be holding a cookie the next.
